Jana Campanelli is an educator with over a decade of experience teaching Health and Physical Education in School District 89, Melrose Park, IL. She is also an athletic coach and mentor to new teachers and students alike. Jana takes her responsibility very seriously as a guide and instructor and works hard to create a safe, supportive environment for learning each and every day. As a result, Jana’s students have blossomed under her creative and entertaining teaching and classroom management strategies.
Jana Campanelli was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Media and Public Relations from the University of Illinois. Knowing which direction she wanted to take, she followed that degree with a k-12 teaching certification from Northeastern Illinois University. Everyone who has been lucky enough to work with Jana knows that she has made every effort, particularly in her academic and athletic consulting duties, as well as the mentoring of new staff.
As a Food and Beverage Trainer at Cantigny Golf & Restaurant, Jana spent nearly twenty years training, coaching, and mentoring new food and beverage staff on all aspects of the job from upselling techniques and managerial prospects, to day-to-day operations and forming positive client relationships. Co-workers and subordinates witnessed first-hand how Jana would jump into the trenches whenever there was a need for extra hands. this effortless ability to mentor employees and relate to customers at all levels was one reason Jana made the jump to pursue a career in education and coaching.
In her current role, Jana Campanelli develops district-appropriate education programs that are flexible enough to support the needs of all levels of learning. Her courses are designed to adjust to standardized curriculums while at the same time identifying and incorporating activities for special needs students. She combines her two disciplines of academia and the world of athleticism because she sees the value in each. Jana knows how important it is to instill healthy habits early on. One of her favorite things is hearing updates from former students who have made a lifelong commitment to their health and education.
Her easy going demeanor and trustworthiness make her the perfect peer mediator and conflict reliever. She is an active member of Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) and a member of the school’s Wellness Committee. Jana is also in charge of creating school-wide physical exercise programs.
Jana Campanelli understands the importance of teaching students self-awareness and independence. As a check-in check-out (CICO) intervention coach, Jana can assist from a mostly hands-off position.
